Direct report of Costume Team Leader

All Tech Staff work together as a team to help successfully get all 14 productions up and running each session. We look to our tech team to utilize your complete skillset not just your primary talent but to wherever needed.

Responsibilities:

● Initial organization of costume shop supplies including fabric and craft supplies

● Inventory and replace supplies in all backstage sewing kits

● Clean and check all sewing machines alongside CTL

● Inventory shop supplies each session and report needs to CTL

● Participate in costume re-organization at start of summer

● Bring designs to fruition through collaboration with Designers: planning, purchasing and sourcing materials, cutting, stitching, finishing garments up final closures which will be completed by the Designers after a fitting.

● Help Clean, store, and organize stock, supplies and machines at the end of summer.

● Maintain an organized schedule and budget time for each project according to the rigorous summer schedules.

Qualifications & Skills

● Interpreting costume designers’ sketches and ideas to develop garment

● Cutting fabric, building garment up to Final Closures for Project

● Conducting fittings with Designers to ensure proper fit and comfort on actors

● Modifying designs based on feedback from designers and performers

● Assisting Designers with selecting appropriate fabrics and materials for costume construction

● Collaborating with costume makers to finalize garment details

● Maintaining an organized work area and managing inventory of materials

● Overseeing the quality control of finished garments

● Previous experience in costume design or garment construction

● Understanding of historical and contemporary fashion trends

● Excellent hand-sewing and machine-sewing skills

● Proficiency in utilizing commercial patterns for builds

● Strong attention to detail and precision

● Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

● Effective time management and organizational skills

● Strong problem-solving abilities

● Good communication skills

● Knowledge of varies fabric and their properties

● Proficiency in sewing and pattern techniques

● Familiarity with costume history and fashion design principles

● Ability to translate 2D designs into 3D garments

● Strong visual and aesthetic sensibility

● Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality craftsmanship

● Good physical dexterity for handling fabrics and sewing

● Flexibility to work irregular hours as needed for production deadlines

● Familiarity with theater production processes

● Ability to lift 50 Lbs
