Master Carpenter

As a Master Carpenter at Stagedoor you will work on multiple shows for each session. You are expected to be in charge of the workshop in the absence of the team leader, assisting the carpenters and swing techs with questions and builds.

Typical duties include:

  • Assist with load-in of scenery, change overs, and strike

  • Verify that all projects are built to the drawings. Consult with the scenic team lead in case of any questions or when a decision needs to be made regarding the building/rebuilding of a set piece

  • Assist the scenic team lead in managing shop space and tools

  • Verify at the end of each workday that the tool room is in order and tools are properly stored away

  • Report low stock of materials and consumables to the scenic team lead

  • Construct special projects as assigned

  • Assist technical director as required during load-ins and strike

  • Assist with any carpentery related theatre building repairs, stock renovations, or new construction

  • Other duties within the individuals skill set as requested by management

You will need to be able to have strong carpentry and problem solving skills, as well as she able to interpret technical drawings and scale models to build scenery.

All of our staff works together as a team to help successfully get all 14 productions up and running each session. We look to our tech team to utilize your complete skillset not just your primary talent. So when we need you, you will be asked to help other departments finish up those last few projects before opening. Whether is be helping sew on those last few buttons, painting projects, or even doing last minute lighting checks. We all jump in to help everyone finish on time. 

Carpenter

As carpenter, you will need to be able to take direction from the team lead, technical director, and master carpenter.

Typical duties include:

  • Ability to read technical drawings and build from them

  • Assist designers with finding and retrieving stock items in storage

  • Assist with any carpentry related theatre building repairs, stock renovations, or new construction

  • Assist as a stage technicians (running crew or follow spot operator) during show weekend, for which you will attend technical rehearsals

  • Assist with load in of scenery, change overs and strike

  • Other duties within the individual skill set as requested by management
